LoseWeight4Waifs

As someone who has struggled with weight problems for most of my adult life, I have often wished there were some way I could take some of my fat and put it on some starving kids who could really use it.

Now I've found a way that I can.

Hi, my name is Lynn Fowler, and I head up an international Christian organization called Glory to the King Ministries International. Through our affiliated ministers throughout Africa and Asia, I am constantly hearing about their work with needy children. Some run orphanages or schools for underprivileged children, some run feeding programs or care for street children. As I have travelled around these countries, I have been privileged to see some of these projects first hand. Everywhere the need is desperate. Our affiliated ministers amaze and challenge me, they do so much with so little. I very much want to be able to help them more than we are able at the moment.

Meanwhile, at a personal level, I have had an ongoing weight problem since my teenage years - and that was an awfully long time ago! I've reached a point where I really have to do something about my weight, not only for my personal wellbeing, but to enable me to be more effective in the ministry.

Glory to the King Ministries' Board decided to put these two things together and launch this appeal, LoseWeight4Waifs.

Me two years ago in Nepal. Not a pretty sight!

At the start of this appeal (March 1st 2008) I weigh 114kg. (That's down from 119kg, so I am already on my way!) I am hoping to take at least another 40kg off that during the next 8 months. This appeal will end on October 31st 2008.

Will you get behind us in this, and commit to sponsor me for a set amount for each kilo I lose between March 1st and October 31st 2008? The amount is up to you. At the end of every second month we will send an e-mail to all sponsors (those without internet will be contacted by snail mail) telling you how much I have lost, and at the end of the appeal we will ask you to either deposit your sponsorship in our bank account (if you are in Australia) or send it by PayPal (if you are overseas.) At the same time you will be asked to vote for one of the projects listed on this site.

Through the "Projects" link on these pages you can see some of the projects that we hope to be able to support with your sponsorship. Depending on how much is raised through this appeal, one or more of these projects will receive funding. The project(s) that receive support will be those which receive the most votes from those who are sponsoring me. The money received will go directly to the chosen project(s), with Glory to the King Ministries International retaining only sufficient to cover our administration costs such as postage and international money transfers.

I will also be keeping a blog throughout the appeal, so that you will be able to keep up with what is happening.

For this year, I will be the only one who is undertaking to Lose Weight For Waifs, but if I am successful and this proves to be a worthwhile fundraising appeal, next year we hope to open it to the general public in Australia, and to be able to offer some nice prizes as incentives.

What's in it for me is obvious: the hope of a new, slim body and the prospect of having some of our affiliated ministers funded for their projects.

What's in it for you is the satisfaction of knowing that you will be giving to help desperately needy children, and that along the way you are encouraging one woman in her efforts to beat the bulge!

Do it now! Read about our projects for needy kids,
then go to our Sponsorship page to sign up.
